- Then & Now Sessions
The Colwyn Bay Town Team supported two Then & Now sessions, which are run by the Colwyn Bay Heritage Group. These sessions aim to make the history and heritage of Colwyn Bay better known and accessible.
- Colwyn Bay Heritage Group Website
In order to safeguard the historical knowledge gathered and documented on the Colwyn Bay Heritage Group’s website, funding was allocated to re-design and future proof it by renewing its licenses.
- Music in the Bay Podcasts
Bayside Radio created a two-episode podcast that charts the history of music, entertainment and popular culture in the Bay of Colwyn area with a third companion episode examining the future of local music. The podcasts went live on Bayside Radio but were also made available to Conwy Archives and The Colwyn Bay Heritage Group as a ‘time capsule’ opportunity.
- Imagine Trail App
Using augmented reality, animation, film and audio this app allows you to discover the exciting and inspiring stories within Colwyn Bay’s local heritage. The Colwyn Bay Town Team decided to fund updates for the app in order for it to function to today’s standards with the hope that a re-launch could take place in the future.
- Purple Plaque
The Purple Plaques campaign was created to improve the recognition of remarkable women in Wales and award them with a Plaque to commemorate their achievements and cement their legacy in Welsh history. The Colwyn Bay Historical Association recognised Ethel May Hovey for her achievements and contribution to the town including her work with Rydal Penrhos, her support for the Welsh Government agenda encouraging more women into politics and her influence and aid in the growth of accessible maternity care.
The Plaque is due to be unveiled in June 2025 on the former maternity home Nant y Glyn. A talk by Gemma Campbell (chief researcher of the project) was given in November 2024 on Ethel’s life and achievements and to make her acceptance by the purple plaque committee public knowledge.
- Colwyn Lights
The Colwyn Lights event on the 28th November saw multiple partners and events come together to create a festive celebration.
NWAMI and Menter Iaith held lantern workshops within the community in the lead up to the event in order to create lanterns for their individual lantern parades on the night.
The Business Forum officially opened their late night shopping Thursday’s and the Town Council did a Christmas light switch on with a chance to meet Santa in the Bayview Shopping Centre.
Colwyn Bay’s own Tape also built on their Lumiere event from last year by including a series of light up dioramas in shop windows as well as their main animation showcase, which launched and continued each Thursday night until the New Year. Menter Iaith contributed with their own Welsh language animation also.
Bayside Radio broadcasted the event live and to end the evening there was live entertainment provided by NIWAMI and Menter Iaith at Ink, which included Welsh band Pys Melyn.
